Behaviour of a Foam Mixture as a Lightweight Construction Material

Building on weak soils is very challenging in engineering projects, especially highway and railway projects. To overcome these problems, the construction of embankments abutments, it necessary to reduce settlement soil increase bearing capacity. This paper investigates characteristics expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam beads mixture as a lightweight material. EPS characterized lightweight, economic environmentally friendly Samples different mixtures were prepared using with sand, cement water at ratios. A series rigorous tests carried out evaluate density, shear strength parameter, compressibility, crushing mixtures. The sand was mixed ratios 1:1, 1.5:1 1:2 by volume content 7%, 8%, 9% 10% weight optimum content. From results found that best ratio between high formed mass acceptable strength, CBR compressibility characteristics. proved that, are linearly proportional curing time.
